In this video, I demonstrate how to slaughter American Buff Geese using both the Kill Cone Method and the Hatchet (chopping block) Method. I include measured results of bleed out.
It is my aim to manage all of my livestock using sustainable resilient and biodynamic values. Above all, my animals have a very peaceful life—free grazing, and natural breeding/brooding throughout.
The goal when dispatching any of my animals is to take their lives swiftly. It’s also important to “bleed out” the animals completely. There is some debate about the most effective and efficient method for accomplishing this. To prove the bleed out effectiveness, I measure the results in two jars side by side to show the differences between each method.

Preparing for Typhoon Songda and Muscovy Duck Housing

Muscovy Ducklings; New life on the Homestead
Muscovy ducks require an incubation time of about thirty-five days. It’s a taxing and restless time for the duck as she must protect the eggs, whilst keeping them at 100º for the entire cycle. Our little momma has done a fabulous job keeping these eggs protected.
Raising Muscovy Ducks and Their Behaviors
